I started this blog in Sept 2005 to chronicle our journey to motherhood. It’s taken longer than I ever imagined and has been far more painful than I anticipated. Mostly you’ll find pregnancy and more recently adoption related entries here. As the journey has turned epic, you’ll also hear lots of randomness about my life.
ETA:
On May 15, 2007 our dreams became reality. I woke at 4:30 am and used FMU to test at 13dpo (the day I expected my period). We were shocked when the second pink line formed! It was the most amazing and terrifying experience in my life. It’s everything we’ve wanted, and yet it is still so overwhelming! So far the first trimester has been okay. I was very sick for about two weeks, but feel lucky that the worst seems to have passed.
. . .
January 9, 2008 Mr. E made his way into the world! There’s a long birth story (look in the Jan 2008 archives) but the shortened version is this: My water broke at between 2-3am on January 8th. Contractions did not follow…A and I tried to get things going but after 17 hours and no signs of labor I submitted to pitocin. I labored long and hard through the night and next morning. I achieved my goal of giving birth without pain meds and used the birthing tub. Once he was in place, I pushed for two hours and he arrived at 12:59pm on January, 9th weighing 6lbs. 8oz. and measuring 19 1/2 inches long. A announced ‘boy’ and he was placed my chest. I fell totally and completely in love. A love that grows deeper with each day.

Hi, I have a question, but please do not be offended by it. Are you and A a lesbian couple? If so, I just wanted to say that I think what you are doing is a beautiful thing. My sister is lesbian and wants so much so have children when she gets older. Your sight brings me lots of hope that this will be possible for her one day. Even if you are not a lesbian couple, your story is very touching. I love your blog.

Well, hello!
I happened to bump into your blog when I googled “two moms are better than one onesies”. I never found the onesie, but absolutely got hooked to your blog and the rocky adventure motherhood has taken you on. It’s wonderful to know that through it all, you got your happy, healthy, beautiful babies! Best of luck to the four of you!!

Hello,
I’m working on a documentary I’m working on called “Out in America”, which will air nationally on PBS in 2011. It’s a film that celebrates and explores a diverse spectrum of experiences in various LGBT communities, and I’m hoping that as the creator of the Two Moms Are Better Than One blog, I thought you might be able to help me find a specific voice that is still missing in the film.
I’m trying to find a few women who would be open to speaking on-camera about their personal experiences with coming out, falling in love, parenthood, dealing with prejudice, etc. We are aiming for diversity with this project, not just in terms of sexuality and gender, but also across the board in terms of socio-economic class, age, geographical location, and ethnicity. So right now, I’m specifically seeking to interview lesbian or bisexual women of color with school-age children, to address LGBT issues from the viewpoint of minority same-sex parents.
If you think you might have some leads for me, please let me know as soon as possible. I would be very grateful if you could reach out to your network for me, or pass this email along. I’m unfortunately on a very tight deadline, so the sooner any interested women can get in touch with me, the better!
I truly appreciate any leads you can provide. Please call if you would like clarification or details on any of this, and feel free to distribute my email address and/or phone number as you see fit. Many thanks.
Best,
Julia

Great blog! You and your partner seem like great parents. I also have a son who is Mr. E’s age – love him to nooo end (although he is going through a defiant phase). I recently started a website for LGBT women called The Magazine Project and would like your perspective on alternative insemination. Could you please email me back?
Thank you.

Please don’t provide her with anything – The Magazine Project quickly became an anti-transsexual hate speech site, you don’t want to be associated with it.

Hello-
I was wondering if you accept guest posts? I have an article/event that I would like to submit in regards to childhood obesity. It is about dancing and how it can be a fun way for kids to exercise. Primrose Schools is hosting a Dance Off competition (with proceeds going the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals) for families and I think it is something you and your readers would enjoy!
I look forward to hearing from you!
Thank you,
Emily Patterson

Hey there, just ran across this blog searching for two mom stuff. My wife and I have 3 kids and it’s such a ball (and torture at times). Anyway, I just uploaded this two moms video that I made yesterday, thought you might like to see it.
Good luck with number 2!
