Today was Mr. E’s second parent adoption. A is now officially, legally, federally his mother…what a ridiculous process, but we’re so thankful we have it. The whole thing was pretty uneventful and over pretty quickly. We went out to breakfast afterwards and then had our final meeting with our doula – how appropriate that she was there at his birth and then we saw her on his adoption day. It was nice to see her again. She referred us to a midwife where we are moving, the same midwife that one of our friends there used/is using. (!) And she even offered to attend our next baby’s birth…even though we’ll be three hours away! I am starting to feel a little better about ttcing #2. But we’re still waiting at least one more year…

congrats! i know what you mean, it’s a silly process to have to adopt your own child. Hopefully the laws will be rewritten someday. IN the meantime, you did the right thing and secured your family.
so happy for you, and what a cute baby

WHEEE! Congrats! As offending as it can be to have to adopt your own child, it is nice to have the option to be legally recognized as a parent. Hoorah!

congrats on a monumental day. we have not done this yet, but have been talking about moving on it soon. of course, i also feel it is so silly to have to adopt your own kids, but at least it is an option for us. so hard to believe that some states do not allow it! anyway, happy day for you guys! glad that’s all wrapped up!

Congrats on legally making your family secure!
I am jealous…we have not started ttc yet, but when we do my partner will have no rights to our kids in our state. Hopefully that will change one day soon.

Congratulations! Ridiculous, yes! But, thank goodness there is SOMETHING out there!! We’re still finishing our paperwork for all of the annoying loopholes, and we’re scheduled for a June adoption. It’s something, at least.
Congrats!

Congratulations on your big day! It must be a real relief to know the legal stuff has been taken care of. It never ceases to amaze me at what a beautiful baby you have. Little Mr. E is the luckiest of babies!

MKD and I will most likely have to go through the same thing. Genetically, the child will be mine, but she will give birth and I will have to adopt him/her. The lawyers are going to have quite a headache dealing with our situation.

E – So sorry I missed this on Monday!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! So exciting that A is legally Mr. E’s parent (not that she wasn’t before of course, but now it’s recognized by this ridiculous system we have)! Wish it was an easier process of course!
